“…from this day let it be said of you not only that you are a man, a man of good morals and respectable conduct, but this, above all things, that you are a man filled with love to him who bought you, a man who lives for Christ, and knows no other passion.” -Charles Spurgeon. “Bought with a Price” Delivered in 1871.
The fact that we are redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:19-20) is the most amazing, wonderful fact in the history of the life of a believer. That through pain, anguish, and most importantly the shedding of our Savior’s blood we were both bought, and redeemed, by God. And what a price He paid! Giving His only Son to be tortured and killed, that we might avoid the due punishment of God’s Wrath, and be given an everlasting inheritance as children of God. I hope and pray that the love God demonstrated at the cross of Calvary would be far and away the most central theme in my life, and that I would be known as having no other passion than that. As Paul said, “I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Cor 2:2) And I thank God that He is so faithful to continue the work He started in all who believe on His Son, little by little molding us more and more into the image of His Son. (Phil 1:6 & Exo 23:30) Praise the Lord!
